Jonathan Griffiths

Jonathan Griffiths serves as Lead Pastor at The Metropolitan Bible Church. Before coming to Ottawa, he served on the staff of the Proclamation Trust in London, England, where he was involved in preparing men and women for gospel ministry through the Cornhill Training Course. He studied theology at Oxford and Cambridge universities and is the author of several books – most recently, God Alone: His Unique Attributes and How Knowing Them Changes Us (Moody Publishers, 2023). Jonathan is a member of the Council of the Gospel Coalition Canada.

Hershael W. York

Hershael holds a B.A. in English and Classical Civilizations from the University of Kentucky and earned a Master of Arts in Classical Languages. He also received a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Philosophy in Greek and New Testament from the Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee. Hershael currently serves as the Dean of Southern Baptist Seminary’s School of Theology and has been in that role since 2018. He has been at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary professor since 1999 and has since authored a few books, including "Preaching with Bold Assurance," a book that guides preachers in effective communication. "Preaching Today" has included him among North America's most effective preachers. He has twice preached at the decennial International Congress on Preaching, is a Preaching Fellow of the Adrian Rogers Institute, hosts the popular "Pastor Well" podcast and writes a regular column in "Preaching Magazine." Hershael also currently serves as lead pastor at Buck Run Baptist Church in Frankfort, Kentucky, where he led the 200-year-old church to grow to its current 100-acre campus.

David Short

David Short is rector of St. John’s Vancouver Anglican Church in Vancouver, British Columbia, and a Council member of The Gospel Coalition. He is also the founder and head of the Artizo Institute, which aims to fill Canada with the sound of God's Word by equipping future ministers to faithfully teach and preach God's Word. He served in the Anglican Church in Australia for 10 years, then came to Canada to serve in the Anglican church. He has been faithfully serving in Canada for over 30 years. Before moving to Canada, David served parishes in New South Wales, Australia. He is a humble servant of Christ and a pastor to pastors.

Josh Moody

Dr. Josh Moody (Ph.D., University of Cambridge) is the senior pastor of College Church in Wheaton, IL. He is also the president and founder of God Centered Life Ministries, which proclaims God’s Word worldwide through daily broadcasts on Moody Radio, One Place, podcasts, and live-streaming on godcenteredlife.org. Josh has also written many books, including "Preaching to the Affections - a guide for preachers about how to preach to the heart" and a two volume commentary on the Gospel According to John. His most recent book is on "Boasting - a biblical theology of the Bible's teaching about Christ-centered promotion."


About the Conference:

We are very excited to be able to host our second annual National Conference with Hershael York, David Short, Josh Moody and Jonathan Griffiths. This conference looks to refresh and encourage through model expository preaching by our keynote speakers. This year’s conference will focus on the necessity and sufficiency of Scripture for the task of preaching, ‘The Living and Enduring Word (1 Peter 1:23).’ Join our three-day conference on May 27-29, 2024. People flying into the Ottawa Airport (YOW) can stay at nearby hotels within driving distance of the Metropolitan Bible Church (the MET).

FAQs:

  • This conference is open to both men and women. There is a specific aim to encourage Bible teachers at any stage, whether in the home or on Sunday morning. We want to encourage current and aspiring Bible teachers.

    An example of someone who can attend would be a lay or vocational elder, a small group leader, a person in vocational ministry, a ministry leader, a missionary, a pastor, a seminary student, a university or college student, and/or a church congregant.

  • The conference will be two half days and one full day. A detailed schedule will be provided at a later date.

  • Yes, meals will be provided for the Regular Rate, Group Rate, and Student Rate.

    Snack and beverage kiosks will also be provided for all attendees. Kiosk locations will be available throughout the main level of the venue.
